Forum Post: RE: LM96511 EVM

Hi Chuck, thanks for your help (again).

The reason I moved from the AFE580x series to the LM96511 is only for the EVM. Our first step at the university is to build a proof of concept system and we'd like to use eval kits to get things running as quick as possible first.

It looks to me like only the LM96511's EVM will support

- a ramp on its TGC controls

- allow gated periodic capture (ie repetition rate)

And we'll likely need both the above (and will certainly need periodic gated capture).

Here's more details on my previous email (and I had made a couple of mistakes)

1) our driving signal will likely be 5MHz; so anything > 20MSPS should be fine. I'll use 40MSPS for the below

2) we'd like our repitition rate to be 1kHz (thanks for the terminoloy correction)

3) per 1kHz strobe, to record 250us worth of data (10,000 samples)

4) for 1 minute, thats 600MegaSamples - which looks like the TSW1400 can support (almost but close enough I'd think)

So ... if the TSW1400 can do periodic capture ... it might work. If it can also do TGC ramping ... even better. So to summarize; my questions:

  • can the TSW1400 do periodic gated capture at 1kHz?
  • does it support a ramping voltage on TGC?
  • if no to either of the above, can I, with a not-too-complex PCB make it support either of the above? (I'm experienced.)

Thanks again!

Gunter
